1. You have half an hour to leave your home, knowing that you will never be back, and anything you leave behind will be destroyed or gone. What do you take? (assuming all the people are taken care of)
Dog, Cats, prescription medicine, Oxygen tank(s), checkbook, purse, bills that are due (trust me - it helps) and any extra clothes that everyone can wear, carry, etc.
2. You have twenty-four hours to leave your home, knowing that you will never be back, and anything you leave behind will be destroyed or gone. What do you take? (assuming all the people are taken care of)
Same as above plus the LOOK magazines from the Kennedy assasination, dime book, file box (providing it didn't go first time), pictures, jewelry, books that can't be replaced easily.
3. For those of you that have a car: Now answer 1 & 2 assuming you don't. For those of you that don't, assume you do (just a regular-size car, not a Hummer!).
Same as above --- everything that will fit in my big duffle and big rolling suitcase.
4. You have to go at least 100 miles away (and if you're coastal, inland) to be safe. Where would you go? Family? Friends? A shelter? How would you get there?
hmmm I really don't know. I would head toward West Virginia I guess and try to look up cousin Debbie's family.
5. How much would losing your home and possessions affect your life? Would you recover fairly quickly? Or would it be disastrous for you?
Been there done that. Had nothing but the kid, two dogs and the shredded clothes I was wearing. You can rebuild your life - it can take a while if you're poor or don't have insurance (been there done THAT) but it can be done. I'll never have my son's baby book again but I have HIM and that's what counts. If I were to ever have to do that again I would be less naive at the *help* promised from relatives ... only to find it had to be repaid 10 fold. Never again.
