This is partially related to that socio-economic quiz I took that still bugs me.

Anyway, tied in with that (no I'm not a socialist - but I'm probably a democrat) I've usually supported the right of our media to air and broadcast what they choose. My thoughts were always "hey you can turn it off" if you don't want to watch. I abhor censorship. It's a scary slippery path that once you start down it you slide down faster and faster. Bad news.

Having said that what about those poor people who got to watch the coverage and dire predictions surrounding their Jet Blue plane while the drama was unfolding? I mean whoa. I'm not certain if this is an issue for the airlines (block news broadcasts upon airlines with issues) or if maybe the media shouldn't have covered it quite as thoroughly as they did. I also don't know if the passengers recognized their plane or if the actual flight number was used. Either way maybe it was an error on both sides. It just shouldn't have happened like it did.

I can think of nothing much worse than watching coverage of your plane in trouble and being helpless to do nothing but hope for the best.

OH, how this ties into that silly quiz is I still fight the term "liberal" because I am an accounting person with a BBA and I like the idea of people earning money and believe businesses need to thrive for that to happen. I definitely fight the term conservative because the idea of the Christian Coalition campaigning for anyone scares the shit outta me. I'm an advocate for less governmental control in personal lives and more information is usually better but this latest crossed the line in my humblest of opinions. Sometimes I think the media needs to consider the consequences of their actions before they act.
