Quite a few on my friends list are doing the 2 things meme. Anyway I have noticed a few have 'drowning' as a fear.

Out of all the fears I have heard mentioned casually over the years that isn't one. There's heights, fallilng, plane crashes, buried alive (personal favorite of my family), accidental murder (another familial favorite - we're disturbed), ghosts, etc but that's one I just had never associated with a mentionable fear.

Maybe it's regional? hmmm. Shouldn't be. In Kansas and Oklahoma we swam in rivers (not the Arkansas River because it's just too treacherous) and ponds and lakes without benefit of lifeguards. Often times as teenagers copious amounts of alcohol were involved. Two or three of us in my highschool group pulled people out of the water who decided to go swimming but were too drunk to remember how, or too drunk to be coordinated enough to swim.

Anyway, we didn't lose anyone in the graduating years of 1973 to 1983 (that I am aware of) to drowning - inebriated or not. We did lose 12 during those 10 years to drunk driving.

Just rambling on about the differences in areas of the country. You'll notice I put "drunk drivers" down as a fear. I guess it's all where you live.

maybe it's only people who don't know how to swim? I've been caught in the riptide before and was stuck for a good minute turning under the water (I was eight). It's was scary but drowning isn't one of my biggest fears. I lived through it. I got pulled out. (I think we all are "fearful" of drowning; that no one would like to go that way, but theres a differance between a healthy "I'm not gonna do that" fear and a phobia)

Definite point. I just found it odd that among my many fears that spark rather vivid nightmares, drowning wasn't one of them.

After being rolled a few times at Rehoboth I will say I have a very healthy respect for the ocean.

my nightmares are only good for the Simpons halloween specials...like the spider that turns into a venus fly trap to catch it's prey.... They are weird, disturbing, and down right funny. At least no one is afraid of Real Estate Agents, right? :-)
