You can't pick your parents
Dec. 19th, 2004 06:40 pmAfter spending 3 agonizing days trying to track down my father and stepmother I find they have blown the state and moved to Nevada....NOT that they bothered to let me know.
Dad is 70 and has a bad history of heart problems. Step-mom is younger but has a rather large painkiller perscription supply (that she does need - bad back - fusion broke etc) and is prone to drive after taking a handful of whatever is available that moment. Yeah so when I hadn't heard from them in a couple of weeks I started to worry. Then panic. Then I started the phone calls.
Cell phone # disconnected.
Home phone # disconnected.
Cell phone (2) # my cousin's girlfriend answered and had no clue who I was or who I was talking about.
Finally I called another cousin (oddly enough sister to the abovementioned cousin LOL) and found out that Dad and Step-mom blew outta Oklahoma the Friday before Thanksgiving - she thinks. Nobody is really sure when they left but Dad called last week bitching because he left his coat behind. That's how she knew where they were and that they were there alive and supposedly well.
Charming.
Deb (the cousin) did offer me the most current phone # she wrangled out of my Dad but I figure I have chased this man down for the better part of 35 years and when he needs something he'll call me. Otherwise I believe it's time to let go.
